There is a low budget Scottish film called the Purifiers which is absolutely excruciating to watch. No plot to speak of, cyphers for characters essayed by charisma free actors and a badly realised fight scene every five minutes ( usually in slow motion).

LOL.. That reminds me of when I took my grandson to see one of them. On the way out we overheard this chap speaking to his son. The boy asked did you enjoy the film then dad? The father answered yes son it was fantastic! The father then said to the boy, now can you explain to me son what it was about so I can tell your mother once we get home I know she will be interested?
My grandson turned to me and exclaimed what a thick sod. I didn’t have the heart to say that makes two of us…

I totally agree about The Excorcist - dull, dull, dull with cardboard characterisations. Absolutely the most over-praised film in existence. In my opinion.

Death in Venice is one I keep meaning to try, but Don't Look Now is one of those films whose title provides a handy review of the contents.

Most of these have been mentioned before but...

Thin Red Line - Christ this was dull. My friend fell asleep in the middle of this and I woke him up, but I apologised to him afterwards for doing so. The opening shot is of a crocodile slooooooooooowly submerging, which seems to last for about 10 minutes. The film just gets more dull from there onwards.

Lord Of The Rings - I only saw the first one, and to be fair it did appear to be well made, but it just didn't engage me in the slightest.

The Crucible - Girls accuse person of being a witch - person gets hung. Repeat ad nauseum.

There was a brilliant bit on Moviewatch once where, during a review of Showgirls, one of the male reviewers said "I never thought I'd get bored of looking at breasts." Well, I saw Body Of Evidence starring Madonna, and the same sentiment applied. This is the only movie I have ever walked out of.

<edit>

Oh yeah, I thought the first Matrix film was brilliant, so I couldn't wait for the sequel. Unfortunately, the night we went to see it, all the screens were sold out, except the IMAX screen, so we ended up paying something stupid like £9 to see it. Let's just say that I was underwhelmed to a degree never before or since experienced.

It's not that exciting if you just look at the story as it is. But if you think about the time when it was written and what it's a lightly coded representation for, it does explain quite a few things that still resonate through to today

Thank God someone dares to speak out against BE.

I detest it with a capital D.

Also 2001 are equally hugely overrated The Deer Hunter.

Although I do like the start of the film "Sebastiane" - it was the Roman sex orgy scene - probably due to the fact that I was in it!!!

Then one of the astronauts, wearing a look that combined being awe-struck and constipated, annoyingly kept repeating the line "my god - it's full of stars".
Which is more than can be said for this galactic turkey!
Avoid like the plague, people......
If you had passed into the next life you could have been reborn as The Star Child

I echo that. I waited for something scary to happen - I'm still waiting!

How did Jack MacGowran get involved? Whenever I see the film I'm more interested in his portrayal of the boozy film director than any rumblings in the attic. Then his character has a fatal heart attack.
