Default Annoying storylines?

The kind of film I cant stand is where they join the historical, modern day or the future together. i.e Highlander. The American ones especially annoy me, jumping from modern day New York to Victorian London etc.

When I read the synopsis and settle down expecting EITHER a modern day or a historical film because they dont say its all about time jumping, I get really angry. PLEASE just stick to one or the other.

I just dont think they work. I mean I dont mind flash backs of say 20 years or so, but when we zoom 3,000 years into the future I just wanna scream

So, what kind of storylines annoy you?

I do like the story of Jack the Ripper(Malcolm Mcdowell as HG Wells) I thought that worked.

I enjoyed that film too,("Time After Time") with David Warner as Jack. I actually quite like time travelling yarns that skip from one period to another or stories of people who are immortal. I thought the journey of Brad Pitt in "Interview with a Vampire" was well done, showing turn of the century New Orleans and Europe then up to the present day telling his life story in a flashback. In "The French Lieutenant's Woman" the device of jumping from a real drama set in 19th Century England to the present day drama of a film crew on location works very well and I think adds interest to the film as we watch two parallel dramas in different time periods unfold.

This must mean that faginsgirl must be hugely intolerant of Intolerance.

I think this might be a man thing! My other half likes them too Come on girls, what do you think? Do you prefer a straight forward film or one which flits from one century to the next millenium and OFTEN includes battling about with lazer swords or space ships, once we have had ye old Victorian carriage ride?

Or is it just me who is being annoying now? Tee hee.

P.S I did think the time jump in `Titanic` was great! But that was understandable!

Default About time

Greetings Faginsgirl,
For a great drama with a cleverly played time-travel twist (and Jack the Ripper thrown in for good measure) check out Time After Tiime with Malcolm McDowell.
A rollicking good tale...

The Final Countdown was superb, as was The Philadelphia experiment. But there was a tv film (I think Sam Wanamaker was in it) where he went back to the Kennedy assasination. That personaly is my favourite and I cannot remember the title. Any idea Bats ?? or anybody, I cannot find it on IMDB.

I love TFC and TPE .... both really exciting films.

Re Kennedy: This is the Sam Wanamaker one ...

Running Against Time (1990) (TV)

and this one is quite good too ...

Timequest (2000)

This film is a pretty good time travel western ...

Timestalkers (1987) (TV)

I wish I had claws.

Time travel (or science fiction in general) doesn't have to involve laser swords or space ships - although it often does. But there are gentler examples like Goodnight Sweetheart on TV, Groundhog Day (caught in a time loop), Back to the Future or even A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court (1949)
