The most shocking and disturbing film I have ever seen was the TV film Threads.

Yes, I was disturbed when I first saw it mid-80's, I've seen it again within the past couple of years, it's still strong, but the special effects (explosion cloud) are of it's time

It's definitely the most disturbing film I've ever seen but I wouldn't class it as nasty because none of the upsetting scenes were gratuitous.

Default original video release running time

'Expose' on intervision label: 80mins 16secs (1979 release)
Re-released after 51s of cuts by the BBFC, in addition to the scenes already cut for its cinema release. This same cut version has been re-released by "Blue Dolphin" and "Odyssey" video. This cut version has also been shown on Bravo TV.

'Xtro' on spectrum label: 82mins 03secs (march 1983 release)
Re-released without cuts. The theatrical version had a different ending to the one released on video. The current US and UK DVDs are uncut in terms of gore, but strangely miss out a couple of dialogue scenes, producing a couple of nasty jump cuts, yet these are intact in the old video release (1983).

I think that dropping nuclear bombs is quite nasty

Default Q.E.D (Ludovic Kennedy)

Q.E.D - A Guide To Armageddon (1982)

This factual shocker was directed by the guy who gave us all nightmares with the excellent 'Threads'.

I have just watched Threads for the first time, thanks Bob for bringing it, and wow it's powerful. It will always stick in the back of my mind. The scenes were not too shocking except for the one where the cat was hurt, sorry I am a cat lover. But overall, a brilliant piece of television that should be shared with everyone. Kill the bomb.

Default Nasties

Straw Dogs was never a "Video Nasty" (ie it was never on the DPP list).

However, the BBFC did refuse to give it a video certificate for many years because of the double rape scene. It was only when James Ferman retired that it was granted an uncut DVD release (Ferman also refused to give The Exorcist and Texas Chainsaw Massacre a certificate but these were both also quickly certified once he had retired).
