me again!

and what about during the end credits when your trying to listen to that incredible piece of music that was featured in the film and all of sudden you get some camp queenie voice telling you what's on next - this is normally on the freeview channels - BBC3 etc - you can just imagine them sitting there very late with a bottle of Gordons - sorry I should get out more - but you know what I mean!

Damn! I missed it!

Really wanted to see that. Interestingly, James Bernard won his only Oscar for that film - as writer, not composer.

Actually, despite the annoying habit of cutting off (or squashing) the end titles like that, I find generally Channel Four are among the best for films. They show the best range of films, and you're more likely to find it in something at least approaching the right ratio.

And I'm grateful that anyone at all has reinstituted the habit of showing old films in the afternoon. They seemed to disappear for a long time, but the last couple years has seen a resurgence between Channel Four and BBC2.

Even at my age, I often find myself longing to have a shower before sprouting hair and fangs.

You don't know enough gay people, or the wrong ones, some of them are very camp.
But I also know someone that talks like that - even though he's straight

However, I often watch BBC3 & BBC4 and I don't think I've ever heard an announcer that I'd describe as having a voice that is close to camp.

Channel 4 showed SEVEN DAYS TO NOON in an aspect ratio of 16:9. Anybody knows it was made in Academy ratio of 4:3. Their reaction when a friend of mine rang them afterwards was to express surprise and say that nobody else had complained! No apology, of course.

I wondered about that, was tempted to ask them, but when I saw the banner popping up at the bottom of the screen I knew it would have been pointless. Anyone who can do that to ruin your enjoyment of a film... is capable of anything.

As for the idea that C4 are good for showing films, if you watch their schedules from year to year they have a core selection of about 200 films which they rotate. Only rarely does a new title crop up. I've been waiting for almost 20 years to see some films - only the intervention of ebay and the internet means I've been able to track a few of them down at last.

Does anyone have any insight into how and where TV companies buy their film packages? I read somewhere their buyers just go to a trade fair, buy a bulk lot and if they find they have, say, a lot of Dirk Bogarde films, they have a Bogarde season. Sounds very cynical and I'd like to believe it isn't true.
