Default BBFC bans a violent DVD

Seems the BBFC is getting into the groove of banning releases again. This outright ban of a DVD follows the ban on the video game Manhunt 2.

I'd hate to be a film critic having to endure all these films.

From what I've read, this is a silly and badly made film that has acquired a reputation for shockiness that is perhaps overstated.

I am uncomfortable with banning this film. Those who think it is trivial or even applaud its passing - bear in mind that a new precedent may be being set here.

Nanny is out there - again - deciding which films we can and can't be allowed to decide for ourselves whether to watch or not...

The problem with banning a film is it gets more publicity than it deserves and then people will seek it out (9 times out of 10 it usually rubbish and we then moan about the fact it was rubbish ),this happened in the 1980's with the whole video nasties fiasco and look what happened then,we got more tougher BBFC restrictions and it could go much the same again but hopefully not to that extreme.

I agree. Not a good precedent to set.

The chaps at Soho Square seem to have forgotten that the 'C' in BBFC stands for Classification not Censorship.

They forgot this the entire time James Ferman was in charge...

Damn!! I always thought the 'C' in BBFC stood for Castration well that would apply to some of the films they did cut in the 80's/90's hmmm perhaps I was right all along.

i saw this myself when they banned it so i thought i would look and see how easy it is to get a copy.
on a certain auction site there are may copies (original ones) available to buy in this country including the uncut version.
it is quite freely available to download from many sites dealing with that sort of thing.
i sometimes wonder if the BBFC live in the real world.
this is'nt the 80s anymore where you can ban things and keep it under control.
the golden age of the internet has brought all that crashing down.
the sooner the BBFC moves with the times the better.
what we need is classification that actually means something somewhere along the lines of the american system.
it appears that unfortunately we may be heading back to those stupid days of james ferman.

Right!! this film has got the worst rating I have ever looked up at the IMDB, this looks like a campaign to give this film an extra boost and if it gets banned or is unable to be bought over here, I can see a good market for it here, buying DVD's from abroad is easy now and the 'Baise- Moi' film did very well over here from it's notorious original version being banned, it was the old scenario, have you seen the uncut version.

The description of the film sounds like something off the old Video Nastier DPP list, a list I can proudly say I have watched in it's entirety although some of them were particularly hard work but adolescence hides allot of plain truths and critical awareness did not come into it at the time, they were just a bloody good blast.

This is old hat this type of stuff, I reckon the company is loving the attention it is getting for the film.
