Just out of interest Marky B although we Brits have not had a stab at The Battle of Hastings there was a French/Romanian/Swiss co production 'Wilhelm Cuceritorul' aka William the Conqueror made in 1982. It actually featured John Terry as Harold.

I think you'll find that the events of 1066 are indeed already being made into a Hollywood Blockbuster.

"Hastings! (A New Hope)" is it's working title. It's being filmed in Spain beacuse
a/ it's cheaper and
b/ the Spanish Plains exactly recreate the area outside Hastings where the battle was fought.

Will Smith has already signed up to play Harold and Joe Pesci is on board to play William the C.
Kirsten Dunst will play the young Queen Bess with Cathy Burke as her maid. Gary Oldman will play the scheming Eric Bloodaxe, Jet Li the head of the Musketeers and The Wu Tang Clan and the Pet Shop Boys have signed to do the Soundtrack.

Others on board include Brian Cox as the head of English Security, Denzil Washington as The Pope, and somewhat unusually Graham Norton as Caligula.... leading the Italian section of Williams Army.

With Michael Winner directing and Liz Hurley acting as Historical Advisor this film looks set to take next summer by storm.

That would be "one in the eye" to all those critics that said it wouldn't work.
Just the words "take next Summer by storm" makes me think of Hastings.

I would like to see a film that exposes and links all the conspiracy theories around 9/11 and the invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq... Something in a similar vein to JFK. Fat chance of that happening though! Cant think of a suitable actor for George Dubya though - ;o)

Daffy Duck? :)

There have been quite a few TV documentaries doing that already, especially as the anniversary came around. There was a good one that looked at all the conspiracy theories that abound on the internet - and dismissed most of them quite easily.

There was a good documentary of Discovery or National Geographic that looked at the JFK assassination and many people on that complained that the Oliver Stone film is now the accepted truth of events by most people. Even though Oliver Stone said that it was a drama and wasn't meant to be taken too literally.

[off topic and a bit contentious]
The one question I have never seen asked (or answered) though is "did the planners know that the towers would collapse"? I see the oft cited figures of how many people died because of the attack. But did they all die because of the attack or because the towers were so shoddily built? And was that known by the planners of the attack?

Certainly Joe Pesci as William C - he would certainly be good at Anglo-Saxon translations!!!

Hello Steve,
re Twin Towers. "So shoddily built" is a bit of a damning generalisation which I think you will find is a mistake.
A while back there was a documentary featuring the construction of the building and the summary was that the central stairwells actually saved people and that the girders melted eventually simply because of the great heat from full jet fuel tanks. What cannot be argued is the irony that those staff who did as they were told and stayed where they were lost their lives as oppposed to those who got out as quickly as possible.
I know hindsight is a luxury but before that day did architects actually build into their design the assumption that an aircraft would purposely fly into it?
regards
Freddy

I wonder if Oliver Stone will make a conspiracy film about Bush and Blair's invasion of Iraq and all the surrounding conspiracies secret and called the film WMD.
Just a thought
Now here's a new game. If such a film was made, who would play who? Daffy Duck as Bush? No scold , an insult to Daffy Duck. wink
