Default Animal Films

Even though Britain is well known as a country of animal lovers I find it difficult to recall an animal that has been billed as a "film star" & appeared in British movies.
I'm talking real animals - not animated.
America has Lassie,Rin Tin Tin,Flipper,Champion the Wonder Horse,ect..
Even Australia has Skippy.
A Fish called Wanda didn't really perform.
Can anyone recall a real British animal film star past or present?
.....and i dont mean Vinnie Jones

Dave.

Barbara Woodhouse trained a rather large dog whose name was, I believe, Juno and who appeared in quite a few films; the peak of her acting career was as the monstrous hound in the Hammer "Hound of the Baskervilles."
Perhaps this is the wrong thread (and website!) to discuss the following but I recall seeing in the mid-fifties a foreign film (French I think) in which all the main parts were played by small animals (rabbits, ducks etc.) It probably wouldn't be allowed nowadays as they were all dressed and shown engaging in human-like activities such as drinking and gambling. Does anybody else recall this film?

Thanks chaps,
I know there have been many films about animals & also films with animals involved but i was thinking under the lines of an animal "star" such as Lassie, who appeared in more than a one off movie.
Has Britain had such a animal star?

Dave.

Ok this is a bit tenuous, but how about Hammy the Hampster, from tales of the river bank,i suspect known to many children of the 60's,he was a real hampster after all(hasn't got the same profile as lassie)i think jonny morris did the voices.

cheers Ollie

Mr Ramshaw the Golden Eagle in I Know Where I'm Going! (1945).

He appeared in the credits of IKWIG and appeared uncredited in a few other films. Mr Ramshaw and Capt. C.W.R. Knight (who was in IKWIG as Col. Barnstaple) also did a few documentaries and toured the world doing flying displays - with Mr Ramshaw doing the flying & Capt. Knight doing the talking.

There's always Hercules the Bear, who became a bit of a star after escaping for a few days while making a telly advert. He also 'starred' in the James Bond flick Octopussy amongst others.
