I think it might be. I can't think of any British films that have that sort of sequel numbering that is so common in American films - unless you go the films of Shakespeare's history plays like Henry IV and Richard III

Yes, it is an American thing, and it just goes to show that if an original idea made a lot of money, then the chances are the follow-up will, which of course is flawed thinking. Why can't people leave the originals alone and let them stand alone? Psycho II, Alien II, Jaws II were all crap and all tarnished the reputations of the originals. Beside the money-thing, it's also a case of the American movie industry being bankrupt and harking back to a glorious movie-past for their inspiration.

Most, yes. But there's an exception to every rule and in this case I think it could be Alien II (AKA Aliens). The monster wasn't as scary because they revealed too much of it and the scariest monsters are the ones you can't see. But it did have a much stronger storyline with young Newt

Ripley: Get away from her, you bitch!

Quatermass II

Was that the first 'numeric' sequel?

As others have suggested in this thread. "One flew over the cuckoos nest" is a superb film, and if you'll pardon the pun is almost an institution.

I tend to avoid films with Danny Dyer in them like the plague
