I noticed only recently after many viewings that the guy that is travelling in the compartment with Carter at the beginning of the film is the assassin at the end. Very subtle as most viewers wouldnt have noticed this

If it was an American made film a lot more would have been made of this, i.e. As Carter walked out they would cut to the guy looking on suspiciously and rubbing his chin pensively to the accompanament of some 'mysterious' music. Cue cries of 'Who's that bloke? and 'Dunno'. During the middle there would be the, 'So where's that bloke, then?' Then at the end there would be the 'Oh shit so that's who it is? By Jiminy what a great ending!'

I'm one who never noticed it. Was it planned or did they just save a few quid on extras and have the same bloke doing two parts?

Default Get Carter (1971)

Is it my imagination or is this film on practically every week of the year? Literally.

Yes, both the origional and the one with Sly Stall ( ) has been on too, the origional does seem to be on quite a lot! It was filmed in Newcastle/Gateshead not far from me and I love seeing the old streets that are in it.

xx

The FIRST blaxploitation remake Hit Man (1972) is often on TCM - think it was this week! It stars Bernie Casey and Pam Grier. It's practically a scene for scene remake and is miles better than the Stallone version.

But then, so is syphillis...

its a fantastic film ,one of my all time faves ,what i read was ian hendry would give verbal abuse to michael caine offset [the drink talking ] but caine never responded until the cameras were rolling ,where you can sense genuine animosity between the two over and above whats in the script

That's largely due because Ian Hendry wanted the main role of Carter for himself. It would have been interesting to see what Hendry would have made of it as I reckon he was a good actor. Sadly Hendry liked a drink - and lots of it. Get Carter was made in 1971. Hendry was in an episode of "The Sweeney" with Brian Blessed. That must have been made in about 1975. You can see that Hendry had obviously aged due to the drink. Shame as he was just one of those faces of the sixtes/seventies I've always liked as an actor..

yep he certainly was a good actor ,shame he became an alchoholic ,the way i read it was that to ian hendry ,michael caine was everything he could have been , or in other words jealousy being the reason for the abuse
