New thread. Back in the 70s or early 80s Jeff Wayne, songwriter penned music for the above work by HG Wells. I seem to remember reading that it was going to be set to an animated or cartoon version at a later date - has anybody else heard of this rumour?
Just think what they could do with it now!! [ 06. December 2004, 15:26: Message edited by: DB7 ]

I can't reply to the original question, but Radio 2 has been playing Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds' The Eve of the War and Justin Hayward's rendition of Forever Autumn a lot recently.

Cheers DB and MarkyB. I bought the LPs years ago and then 'updated' to CDs. I love it - as with some other of HG's work, he dreamed of a new beginnning in the world (or Britain) where all the old practices and rituals, class systems. poverty, injustice would be swept away. A new start.
Never to be though!

Men Like Gods was the last Well's utopian novel I read but perhaps a bit too complex to bring to the screen.
I've always had something of a soft spot for Korda's The Man Who Could Work Miracles but haven't seen it in years. |

Interesting! I hope it's not too overdone with fantasy sequences and the like.....it could I think go two ways, be positively brilliant or absolutely dire with very little middle ground or critical forgiveness. Let's hope it's the former! Regards, Decks.

The Spielberg/Crusie version will be released next summer. I am looking forward to it,as I think the bearded one is overdue for a seminal blockbuster and Tom Cruise is pretty accurate for choosing good material.

I agree,Jim. I would assume it's nearly finished in production,so therefore it's academic. The bearded one has championed the British film industry before (the Indiana Jones trilogy for example and Saving Private Ryan was mostly filmed in Hertfordshire),so it is a pity he never made the film over here. The British film studios could do with US dollars to keep them going.
