Oh, I know there are other aspects to the story, but the sports aspect would bore me rigid

Glad someone mentioned E.T. def one of those moments that make you fill up.

But for me, The Bridges Of Madison County, especially at the end when Clint was at the traffic lights waiting and waiting and had to make a decision. Meryl Streep was just so perfect as Francesca. A truly beautiful film. In my top ten.

Re BOMC .... that bit probably wouldn't get to me if it had anyone other than Clint.

Now I know why Steve hates sport, especially football!!!!!

'Some people believe football is A Matter Of Life And Death.
I'm very disappointed with that attitude.
I can assure you it is much, much more important than that.'

Bill Shankly

What could be more important than A Matter of Life and Death?

But in fact I grew bored with sport even before I discovered Powell & Pressburger. In fact I don't think I was ever excited by sport, even as a nipper. And Shankley's quote always has to be filtered out from searches for my favourite film

Neither was I Steve, I won't 'rant' about how I feel about todays Footy players, but movies such as 'Le Mans', 'Wimbledon' , even that one with Tom Hanks and Madonna about Baseball players and many more Sports movies are one big yawn.......even the World cup of a couple of years ago couldn't stir any interest.......I couldn't give two hoots who won or lost it!:

Indeed, after the previous five episodes of hilarious comedy, the writers made their point quite well, and drove home how futile 'going over the top' was during a war where gaining territorial advantage was almost impossible.
'See you all in Berlin for coffee and cakes' was the morale every soldier needed prior to being slaughtered.
Very sad.
