The best place to try is probably in the Imperial War Museum's online archive index....

Bit of a Bay Window, what??

Hi Colin and welcome ... excuse my ignorance, but what's an MTB? I am guessing at 'motor torpedo boat'?

Spot on. The motor torpedo boats weren't as glam as a destroyer or frigate but they still did their bit.

They were more glam in a way. They were more independent and with a smaller crew every member of the crew was more important.

They featured heavily in the raid on St. Nazaire where they rammed the old HMS Campbeltown into the gates of the dry dock. And then blew her up!

Gift Horse (1952) was loosely based on that raid. Attack on the Iron Coast (1968) told the story more accurately and there have been a few documentaries about it as well.

MTBs were also involved in the Dunkirk evacuation and in D-Day of course.

Thanks Penfold, I had a gander at the IWN online but they had just still pictures and no movies. I did come across from imdb a film about PT boats called 'They Were Expendable ' (1945) Directed by John Ford. I would have thought that this sort of subject, a small crew serving side by side under extreme circumstances would have been the ideal subject for a British film.

Thanks steve for those 2 titles Amazon has Attack on the Iron Coast . I apreciate the help guys.

I made a somewhat similar query recently and the nearest that I was able to come up with was a 1944 film about Air Sea Rescue which also had Motor Gun Boats in it called "Those in Peril". Also, in a similar theme, "The Sea shall not have Them".
Hope this helps
