What about them .... if they're not on screen who cares (except the pig)? If they are on screen I won't watch it.

Yum!

It is as ever a case of the unseen (but suggested) having more effect than the 'seen'

And after the food and drink we go naturally to another favourite location for today's actor - the toilet! Wasn't Jane Fonda the first player to be seen on the toilet in a film? That woman has a lot to answer to!

Agreed ..... I have no interest whatsoever in what people get up to in toilets ..... except if it's James Bond beating the crap out of that baddie in Casino Royale.

Bring back the days when, if men wanted to have a private conversation, they rolled up their sleeves and spent five minutes washing their hands!

The scene in Frenzy when the badly-fed Alec McCowern is stuffing his face with a huge and delicious fried breakfast at his desk, with his deputy longingly looking over his shoulder, is a great scene and always makes me hungry!

What embarrasses me more than annoys is when an actor or actress is obviously trying to plug a fledgling performing career and is seen dancing, playing an instrument or singing during a scene - usually totally unnecessary and out of context. I always remember the cringemaking Eastenders episode when Nick Berry sings 'Every Loser Wins' at the Queen Vic.

It is straight from the performing arts, 'Look at me - I can dance/sing as well', book of getting-into-showbusiness.

Not so much annoying for the viewer but maybe for the Producer director are the actors who manage to plug things in films. The famous one that comes to mind is Sid James who used to get, prominently displayed, brands of wiskey or bitter on the Carry On films.

That should include most children's TV presenters .... except the lovely Naomi on Milkshake and Chris and Pui on CBeebies.

Last Sunday I watched the programme drama about Jane Austen, quite enjoyable, but why did they portray her niece making water in a field

Not only cop shows of course.

Just because some ignorant people do it in real life doesn't mean it has to be portrayed on the screen. A lot of people pick their noses, too. And I used to have a boss who was always scratching his balls.
One of my favourite lines is from "Legally Blonde"- yes, I know it's chick-flick and American, but it is still good:

Elle: Did you see him? He's probably still scratching his head!
Paulette: Yeah, which must be a nice vacation for his balls.

I cant go anything at all to do with toilets be it in ads or film, its horrible, we all know what we have to do, but leave some things sacred, I cringe at some things we get onscreen no need for it, nor is there for some nude scenes in some films, you can be sitting happily watching a film and for no reason we see boobs or a bare arse, there is no need for it at all, puts me right off. oh Ill get pelters for this one. Im ducking just now.

Only the artistically limited Donna.
You didn't come back on the joke! Would it be better perhaps if he were a Taffy called John Audley perhaps?

My comments were in the context of the topic "annoying things actors do". Those things you listed are in a different category altogether from someone just eating with his mouthful. That said, I also avoid movies depicting those things, they are not for me. I prefer escapsim to that sort of reality.

I don't think it's in a different category or context.

The thread title was "annoying things actors do" and all those things are 'done' by actors on screen and I find some of them 'annoying'.

Actors perform directions given to them by directors so anything they do is fair game for comment. It's purely a matter of what we, as individuals, find acceptable

The itching, scratching and talking with their mouthful brigade do not 'annoy' me ... the limb severing, get your willy out for the camera and tongue down the throat brigade do.

I think all these activities are totally within the remit of this thread, regardless of whether we agree about it or not.

I like escapism too, but I also like a dose of realism now and again too. I then have the choice to watch either style of film making should I wish to.
