for M I always envisaged Tim Piggott Smith ( who is in QOS) or the late Ian Richardson.

They use elements of the story but they are not enough to convince that I'm watching Bond..he's just a guy with the same name.
I wasn't keen on the Brosnan films either
It certainly is too long, all that collapsing house stuff went on forever, and Le Chiffre was indeed dull. At times he was like the secondary villain, what with all those scary African dudes and creepy Mr White lurking in the background intimidating him.

I am really looking forward to the next one .... I am in a minority but I think Quantum of Solace is a great title.

George Baker was in a restaurant at the same time as Ian Fleming was trying to sell the rights..in a bid to convince them Fleming went over to Baker and said " there's your James Bond there!"
Of course that could just have been Fleming being oppurtunist..Baker was never approached by EON for the role.

the problem he had after taking over from roger ,is that he had to play the part deadly serious after rogers lighthearted take on it ,now the 2 dalton films can be taken out of context and the casual fan wonders why theres no" bond sillyness "in his films ,hence his unfair popularity

I don't mind the title but I'm not interested in the film

Hard to see him in the movie Bond then. He always comes across to me as a resolutely lower-class boy made good, with a tinge of contempt for snobbery and seeing oneself as superior to the plebs.

No matter who's playing him.

Prior to Dr No IIRC GB claimed one of the producers wanted him but the other didn't so they asked Fleming to decide and he said 'no'. Connery got the nod despite IF's objections because both Harry and Cubby both wanted him.

Much of it was marketing..LTK was poorly marketed and the pressbook for GE makes Dalton a scapegoat.

Baker has always said he was never approached.

I saw him tell that story during a TV interview.

i prefer bond without the gadgets anyway ,from russia with love ,ohmss ,fyeo ,ltk ,some of the later brosnan films returned to moore type sillyness and over reliance on gadgets ,only problem i had with cr was they should have had a clean sweep of actors ,dame judi shouldnt have been m ,sometimes the continuety in the bond films has been terrible ,felix leiters casting etc ,the baddie in living daylights turning up in goldeneye as bonds ally ?

I read that after filming "Tarzan's greatest adventure" with Gordon Scott,

that Connery was offered the "Tarzan" role & that he was interested but

the "Bond" deal came up instead. How opportune was that?

"Me Tarzhan"......
