as a complete spin on the regarded films you hated post ,is there any films that are usually considered rubbish you actually liked ? any one got anything nice to say about sex lives of the potato men ? .........thought not ,what about other derided films that have been a critical or commercial flop that youve got something good to say about ? or maybe something that sank like a stone and remains a lost gem

I'm not sure how League Of Gentlemen's Apocalypse was received critically in the UK but a few mentions I saw seemed to rate it as dubious. Also, friends who had seen changed the topic. Anyway, when I finally saw it (bought in K-Mart for about $10) I really enjoyed it. I liked the TV series anyway so that was one big barrier down that many would have had to cross. It seemed to me that they knew they were up against it in making a film and did a pretty good job. Perhaps in Australia we're not as inundated with the actors as UK posters have been.

I liked 'Die Screaming, Marianne'. Apart from the fact that one of my favourite actors appeared in it (Leo Genn), I thought Barry Evans gave the best performance I'd ever seen him come out with. I think the lovely Judy Huxtable was well out of her depth trying to play the mad sister, but the scene with her and Leo Genn where she expresses her desire to get up to a bit of incest with him is still a tad eyebrow-raising, even now.

If memory serves me right On Her Majesty's Secret Service received good reviews on its initial release. Showgirls is an odd choice.

OHMSS's reviews were about 50/50 .... I was mainly thinking of the drubbing it's received from Lazenby haters.

I went with a lesbian friend of mine to see Showgirls because she didn't want to go on her own. It wasn't great but I enjoyed it .... the musical numbers were well-staged and the story was interesting. I wouldn't, however, particularly wan't to see it again.

I also thought Showgirls was an excellent viewpoint of the seedier side of Las Vegas
and should form a warning to any young dancer/idealist with visions of a good life there to think twice. A good service film in that respect. The way that the 'star' maltreats the black girl is horrifying.

Despite always feeling that Kris Kristoferson could "never hold the screen on his own" I really enjoyed "Heavens Gate" which was in Hollywood terms, catosphrohic to ticket-buyer, director, critics and studio alike!

The Punch and Judy Man with Tony Hancock, as I have said elsewhere on this forum, its not half as bad as critics and Hancock devotees have made out.

The three Morecambe and Wise feature films didnt have great reviews but think a lot of Eric and Ern fans have a lot of affection for the Intelligence Men and That Riviera Touch,
