Default VietNam Films

Unlikely to be Britmovies I grant you but a genre I'm interested in. I have the following:

Full Metal Jacket
Platoon
The Boys in Company C
Apocalypse Now
Hamburger Hill
Good Morning Vietnam
The Deer Hunter
Casualties of War
Born on the 4th July
Gardens of Stone
The Green Berets

anyone have 'Bat21'?

Anybody have any other suggestions please?

But only dealing with the war as the main theme not as a small part of the film.

Thanks folks.............

.....You couldn't hear it, if they were shooting at me with howitzers!

If Bat21's the film with Gene Hackman it's not bad ... in a kind of 80s US gung-ho way.

"Full Metal Jacket" qualifies as a "Brit" movie in many respects, entirely shot in Britain by Kubrick with derelict Beckton gas works dressed to look like a bombed out Vietnamese city.

How Sleep The Brave. Made on a shoestring by Lindsey Shonteff, but worth a look.

The Siege of Firebase Gloria is well worth a look at. Filmed in the Philippines it is about the defence of the Firebase against the Viet Cong during the Tet Offensive.

Wasn't there an Australian film, 'The Odd Angry Shot' about Australian troops in Vietnam?

'China Gate' with Gene Barry, Angie Dickinson, Nat 'King' Cole and Lee Van Cleef was set in 1950's Vietnam. Directed by Samuel Fuller to boot!

The Ugly American. An early 60s 'message' film about American interference in South East Asia. Marlon Brando plays the new US ambassador to the fictional country of Sarkan (Vietnam) and crosses swords with an old friend who is now a 'freedom fighter'. A bit talky but Brando is great.

The drill sequences shot at Bassingbourne Barracks near Royston. You can see my son's old room in one of the shots (while he was in Basic Training for the Royal Engineers).
Does anybody know why it was shot in England?

Regards,
HG

Well he ended up in England (his adopted home) mainly to escape the intrusion into his personal life from the media and quite alot of US critics where not very favourable with their reviews.

He was also scared of flying so never returned to the US after his first film in the UK Lolita - all subsequent films where made over here as well, for some films that needed shooting in different parts of the world he would get another film crew to do it with explicit orders on how he wanted things done - also in England the studios gave him a lot more freedom than the US ones and he was known for having small crews and doing a lot of work himself, even in the editing room - basically he had independent production rites over his films, which is basically a rariety but very nice to have if you can get away with it.
