What summer?

I enjoyed Iron Man and am looking forward to the new Bond film.

Don't miss out on a chance to win a rare film in Bat-Quiz 13 closing date - 31/8/8.

Am looking forward to going to see the new French WWII film that has just opened : "Female Agents", got very mixed reviews in the Sunday papers but still worth a visit I think.

There were some people talking about on Woman's Hour last week and they included an interview with Tania Szabo talking about Violette.

It does sound like it's an interesting film

I thought Iron Man was most of the super hero cliches rolled into one. Its been a pretty desperate year for films.

I'd agree with you about the state of films in general this year. Iron Man was not a great film but it was much better than Batman Begins or Superman Returns, both of which I found very boring. The new Batman looks to be a bit better and the new Bond looks good.

I am not looking forward to seeing this ...

The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008)

but this should be good, shame we have to wait till next year ...

Jerry Cotton (2009)

Default Didn't like Batman Begins?

Oh wow you guys didn't like Batman Begins? I thought that was an absolute masterpiece. I also very much enjoyed Iron Man and Superman Returns. I just saw Hancock the other day and boy did that stink something awful! The last two Will Smith movies (Hancock and I Am Legend - which was a terrific book by the way) have been horrible. Hancock is better than I Am Legend (what isn't though) but it still wasn't any good. I'm definately looking forward to the new batman and bond. The only problem I have after seeing the trailer for the new bond film is how much they're trying to make it like the Bourne movies. I understand those movies are popular and influential but Bond should stand on his own and have his own style and moves. I'm a Huge fan of the Bond films and Casino Royale. I hope they don't take it to far to the Bourne side though. And why is it so hard to make the I Am Legend book into a decent movie? I mean come on Hollywood!

This is a very decent version of the book ....

The Last Man on Earth (1964)

Re Batman Begins and Superman Returns, both films IMHO suffer from excessive navel gazing and contain some of the dullest actions scenes I have seen. The acting is SR is uniformly poor with Kate Bosworth delivering a truly abysmal perfromance in what was essentially a rehash of the first Christopher Reeve film. As you can probably guess from my forum name I am a huge Batman fan but BB was for me an absolute stinker. Batman films are about fighting super-villains in Gotham City, not bumbling around in the mountains. Most film fans already know why Bruce became Batman so the first hour of that film was entirely superfluous and the second hour not exciting enough to overcome the numbing boredom of the first half. The new one looks better from the trailer but I am not holding my breath. I blame Tim Burton for taking the film Batman down the doom and gloom route. It works OK in the comics but on screen it is just too dull for me. Joel Schumaker at least gave the series a bit of life but had no idea of how to tell a coherent story, resulting in those two disasters.

I took my daughter to see Narnia last week and thought it was a great film.

Default Vincent Price's I Am Legend

I've seen that version of I Am Legend also and even though I'm a fan of Vincent Price and enjoy his work I didn't enjoy this version of the story either. I don't know why Hoolywood has to change things from the book so much when you have an absolute perfect blueprint to follow (The Actual Book). Hopefully Charlton Heston's version called Omega Man will be half way decent.

The Omega Man is a good film but it is no more 'faithful' to the book than the other versions.
