Didn't Sinatra knock back Carousel?

Apparently Col. Tom knocked back the part of Tony in West Side Story on behalf of Elvis. Whether Elvis ever knew this or not is another story.

Bing Crosby turned down Columbo and Noel Coward turned down Dr No. The US actor Richard Harrison was unable to take up the offer to appear in A Fistful of Dollars due to other commitments but recommended an unknown US TV actor instead .... Clint!

Don't miss out on a chance to win a rare film in Bat-Quiz 13 closing date - 31/8/8.

Interesting. What was the OTW incident?

The most beautiful woman ever on the screen - the incomparable Gene Tierney - was not the first choice for Laura, one of my favorite films.

Jennifer Jones was on the top of the list, but she declined. Of course, she was a knockout in her own right, but not quite as spectacular as Gene.

Laura starring Jennifer Jones would have been an interesting film. But it would have been quite different.

I shall desire more love and knowledge of you

I was referring to Sinatra getting seriously cheesed off when, after being told the role of Terry Molloy was his, his was unceremoniously dumped in favour of Brando.

Humphrey Bogart and Clark Gable were John Huston's original choices for the Caine/Connery parts in The Man Who Would be King when he wanted to film it in the 40s/50s.

Robert Donat was the first choice for Captain Blood, Errol Flynn, of course, was the late relacement.

Warner Bros first choice for Robin Hood was James Cagney. He wisely turned it down. Flynn was again the beneficiary.

Cagney was very good as Bottom in A Midsummer Night's Dream (1935), with Mickey Rooney as Puck!
