Default Margaret Hamilton (wicked witch)

Hi.

Posting here as I think maybe actors and actresses forum is for British stars only.

Margaret Hamilton (wicked witch in wizard of Oz) always scared me. I once saw her in another film which I can`t remember the name of but she scared me in that too!

Does anyone know much about her?

xx

She always scared me as the Wicked Witch, too. Yet in real life she was a former schoolteacher.

He brings joy to me.

I was listening to Lorna Luft on BBC Radio 2 a few weeks ago and she remarked that she was a very sweet lady in real life. It was those flying monkeys that scared me in Wizard Of Oz.

Thanks for the info. No, I don`t think it was 13 ghosts cornershop, I`m really not sure what it was, I probably turned off because I was so scared . I don`t think it was the actress as the wicked witch that scared me as much as when she was the neigbour who snatched Toto. The scene where she is riding her bike with little Toto pokeing his head out of the basket still gives me nightmares!

Indeed, by all accounts she was a very kind and sweet lady indeed, which just makes me admire her even more. It's always a sign of a great actor/actress when someone who is so kind in real life can so convincingly play such a wicked and sinister character.

In her later years, she also starred in several adverts for Maxwell's Coffee, if anyone remembers those.

My father said the same of Boris Karloff and I thought Peter Cushing looked a kind and gentle man when I saw interviewed a couple of times.

This is what I mean (unmentioned at the Forum until now) when I say that GOD could have made all our lives a whole lot better if all the negative emotions were consigned to Fantasy only. Angry words and actions, especially murder, would ONLY be used in films, TV, theatre, etc. If I Ruled The World - then we'd have real-life friends who play enemies on screen. I hope others agree.

I'm sure all we want is to be happy but some of the things we experience or read about are just so horrific that when I see actors portraying similar villainy I actually feel even worse, but can also feel uplifted in the knowledge that it's unreal. All human emotions are interesting to watch when acted out but in real-life I'm frightened of the unpredictable. That's why I've hardly been out for 20 years.
