Default Titanic Film Models

Here is a selection of images showing the 20ft Titanic model that was used in the first 20th Century Fox production 'TITANIC' from 1953 which featured Clifton Webb and Barbara Stanwyck.

(all images - authors collection - copyrighted to the righful owners)

Arrival at the 20th Century film studios (1953)

20th Century Fox backlot

The Titanic model re-modelled as the Queen Mary for the film 'Gentlemen Prefer Blondes'

The Titanic model, still as the Queen Mary, is now converted to the fictional ocean liner Goliath for the 1981 sci-fi programme 'Goliath Awaits'

After being saved and transformed back to its 1953 state, the model arrives at the 'Falls River' museum.

Fascinating photos, thanks for taking the time and trouble to put them up. The people viewing it give a great idea of its size.

Thanks for sharing those excellent images with you Jonathan.

In stark contrast to the other pictures you posted, it's great to see the model is in such good condition.

Its a pleasure. Glad you like them.

(mods/admin) If its OK, could the title to this thread be changed to "Titanic Film Models" as I can add images of other models from other Titanic movies in this same thread. Saves starting another.

Great photos, a scale model is always more convincing to me than a computer generated ship!! The Titanic model is about the same size as Stromberg's oil tanker from "The Spy Who Loved Me" Wonder what happened to that one?

Here are two period images of the miniature scale model of the rescue ship R.M.S Carpathia that was used in the 1958 Rank production 'A Night To Remember'.

That's right.
It should say Liverpool - the vessel's port of registration.
It departed from Southampton where many of the staff (especially engineers) came from but went on to dock at at Queenstown (now Cobh)in Ireland and Cherbourg.

Not sure as to why they made that simple mistake of 'Southampton' when they built the model as it was commonly known that Titanic 's registered port was Liverpool.

That 1953 film model is very inaccurate. Considering they had blue prints and photographs to work from, they ship is still highly inaccurate. They took her sister ship into consideration when building it. Same applied to the model built for 'A Night To Remember'.

The 'A Night To Remember' Titanic model as seen in the water pool at the Pinewood Studios in 1958. The model was designed in two sections so that it could be split in half during sinking sequences to obtain a steeper angle.

Here is a small selection of images and stills showing the model from the 1943 German propaganda movie 'Titanic'.

Fab stuff, thank you very much for posting these.

A Night To Remember and Goliath Awaits are two favourites of mine.
