There is a web site devoted to free newspaper DVD's (I guess there is a web site devoted to mostly anything!)

See http://www.free-uk-shares.co.uk/free-newspaper-dvd.html

Presumably it's kept up to date - it is at the moment anyway

The best thing about free DVDs in newspapers is that young kids can start building up a fantastic film collection absolutely free, and do swapsies like we used to do with bubble gum footballer cards.

Does anyone remember the bubblegum cards for Flags of the World, they were made out quite thick cardboard and were of a good size,on the reverse was a potted geography lesson on the country in question.
I would like to see them again.

Absolutely! In fact, I was only thinking about them the other day whilst looking through a Flags of the World book and thinking how I used to know them off by heart thanks to those bubblegum cards

You're quite right ... just goes to show how good that other website is

'How to get ahead in advertising' is with the Sunday Times and 'Junior Bonner' (Steve McQueen) is with Sunday Telegraph.

Anchor Bay are taking legal action regarding 'How to get ahead in advertising' as it's one of their upcoming releases. Still the free version was a dire fullscreen affair.

Just got the Telegraph, not intrested in the other film, thought for future the Telegraph is also running a series of Film Icon giveaways over the next week by collecting tokens and sending off for them, the films are,

Intermezzo - Yesterdays Telegraph
Junior Bonner - Today in the Sunday Telegraph as stated above

The Snows of Kilimanjaro (1952) Gregory Peck, Susan Hayward, Ava Gardner
The Flying Deuces (1939) Laural & Hardy
One - Eyed jack (1961) Marlon Brando
The Outlaw (1943) Jane Russell
Road to Bali (1952) Bob Hope & Bing Crosby

if you collect 10 tokens and send them off you will get these, however for £9.99 thay offer the whole collection without having to collect tokens and throw in a extra disc,

His Girl Friday - Cary Grant, Rosalind Russell.

It is cruel to discover one's mediocrity only when it is too late.

The extra disc"His Girl Friday" is in the public domain ,so ,in theory is free wether you buy the collection or not ,I have noticed a couple of films offered for free in papers are now in the public domain.
