Default Edge Of Darkness

Saw this last night and have to say one of the best films I've seen since The Departed, not really a Mel Gibson fan but he does really well here, an excellent and different plot with many skeletons in many closets, highly recommended.

Just to add, on coming out of the cinema there was a queue for Invictus which consisted of mainly middle class Berghaus wearing stereotypes hoping to get some organic popcorn in recycled cups, unlucky there then

I am looking forward this. Have you seen the BBC original? If so, how does it compare?

You can get the BBC series of Edge of Darkness on DVD from Amazon for under a fiver. It is absolutely brilliant! I watched the film version of State of Play and was pleasantly surprised at how good that one was.

I went to see the movie last week and i thought it was bloody awlful and as a fan of the original TV show thought they had changed far too much of the original story
the americans wouldnt be as brave with it anyway as Cravens daughter is a communist in the original

wish the americans would leave our wonderful TV shows alone

Had a pointless argument with a friend last week:he,forgetting that
I had lent him the original BBC series was enthusing about the
'new Mel Gibson film','looks great, action packed, car chases and all..'
But,I pointed out, there were no (significant) 'car chases; in the
original? Guns yes,but not as heavily featured as in two of the
trailers I have seen for the Gibson film.Oh well, each to their own,
I say.I'll stick with Bob Peck and Joe Don Baker, thanks!

Be Happy and well

I guess they wouldn't make her a communist in the Brit version any more - hardly a relevant breed, your communists, in 2010...

What I want to know is did they have Daddy Mel kissing his daughter's vibrator? That would have been brave!

All men leak.

I have read that Martin Campbell's orginal cut was much closer to the BBC original than the released version. Apparently the suits were not happy that preview audiences complained about a 'lack of action', so they forced Campbell (who did not have a 'final cut' option in his contract) to do some re-shoots and create some new, more action led scenes. I will reserve judgement until I have seen it. I will be surprised if it comes close to the excellent original but it may be OK (as State of Play was) as a film in it's own right.

Does Ray Winstone tell Mel Gibson the only thing the US has worth bothering with are its golf courses?

If he did, he must have been in Florida recently!

Though I enjoyed watching Winstone, I thought the film as a whole was dreadfully uneven, and compared to the original it was crapola.

That's probably due to the re-shoots etc.

No interest in seeing this - any Mel Gibson movie is primarily about making Mel Gibson look good as far as I can see, and I don't think he's ageing at all well.
The obvious difference in approach seems to be apparent in the trailer/ad of Gibson in position, gun poised to signify that this is essantially an ACTION !!!!! flic, while the BBC version (which I watched over the last three nights) is of a haunted looking Bob Peck clutching his daughter's teddy bear. I know which I'd go for.
