The part De Niro ad-libbed, talking to himself in the mirror in Taxi Triver always get mention in threds like these.
I like the line in the Night Of The Living Dead when Ben says "Now get the hell down in the cellar. You can be the boss down there, but im boss up here! " Or in the Good The Bad The Ugly when Tuco says "When you have to shoot, shoot, don't talk" |

I must be the only person in the universe who has never seen "The Godfather" but I once had some email correspondence with a film buff named F Gwynplain McIntyre (apparently a very controversial figure on some websites) who was convinced that what people usually consider as relating to Sinatra in the film in fact related to the now-almost-forgotten actor/entertainer Keefe Brasselle. Now I'd better go watch "The Godfather" to find out what I'm talking about.

Hello, Jeff,
Yep, dear old F Gwynplain McIntyre. I'm sure, and I believe he's suggested as much once to me, that he enjoys his startling posts and having people on. He certainly does evoke reactions, mine included to which he always gives a hearty laugh. That's an interesting conjecture on FGM's part...Keefe Brasselle. Best, Barbara |

Here's a favorite from Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy (also posted in the TTSS thread, but apt here): among the many wonderful lines is this exchange between Guillam and Smiley. Smiley, "I've been sacked." Guillam, "Did they give a reason? Or is it just because you've lost your figure?" Wonderfully droll and so Le Carre.
Best, Barbara |

Apologies in advance as this is a slight cheat, the film connection being Jeremy Lloyd. He was on the Parkinson show with Glen Campbell who is being asked about the poverty and upbringing in the Southern States of America.
Campbell: Yes we were very poor, in fact we were so poor I didn't see a toilet till I was 9 years old. Jeremy Lloyd: My God! you must have been bursting. regards Freddy

Everything from A Man For All Seasons, but especially Sir Thomas More's retort to Roper when the latter argues that the country's laws need tearing down. It's several lines, really, but it equates laws with trees. I can't remember it exactly, and I don't want to do it a disservice, so I won't quote it. But it's fantastic stuff.
Incidentally, there were some wonderful lines said by The Common Man which were excised from the 60s version (the character was removed entirely from the screenplay). Charlton Heston's version has this character - as played by the late Roy Kinnear - and is therefore closer to Robert Bolt's play. Ah....if only rain was beer... |
