The BBC did a 6x30min adaption of The Day Of The Triffids - rather better than the film.
Could one include Colossus: The Forbin Project - not exactly end of the world but the world was certainly going to be a lot different! Hmmm, thinking along those lines how about Rosemary's Baby and The Omen films?! Any films about Noah? |

I've seen Rosemary and Omen once, and not a second time. I can't say those were bad films or uninteresting, but they are not films I'd spend the time to watch again. Exorcist, too, although I've watched bits and pieces of it. I almost consider those films with Satanic issues to be all TOO fitting in civilization - there's no need for me to buy a ticket to see that, LOL.
Bedazzled offers a viewpoint that I enjoy a lot more. I was so disappointed that, when the remake was done, there was absolutely NO airplay for the great (and distinctly superior) original. |

Fukkatsu no hi (Fukkatsu no hi (1980)) was also known as Virus - IMDB gives 11 films with this title! I picked this DVD up as one of those cheapie 3-in-1 discs, Classic Disaster Movies, which also carries Hurricane (Hurricane (1974) (TV)) and Deadly Harvest (Deadly Harvest (1977)) - it came from your side of the pond, so you might be able to pick it up there - ISBN 0779255933. Video quality is OK for 3-in-1 (Virus is a bit dark at first, not X-files style but more like it was originally filmed in poor natural light), acting quality is a bit dodgy - especially in Deadly Harvest! Worth including in your EOTW collection though. Pip PS to Barrington - sorry about communication breakdown - maybe u you can PM here please??? |

I wouldn't consider The Exorcist having anything to do with an End OF The World scenario - to me it's just a film about a demon posessed girl. Whereas Rosemary's Baby and The Omen films have the Antichrist or his progeny being born on Earth so that would signify to me the end of the world as we know it. So I'll add a Kirk Douglas film along those lines - Holocaust 2000. 'spose we could add End Of Days as well.
How about The Satan Bug? a virus that could potentially destroy all life on Earth. Robert Altman's Quintet. Logan's Run - end of 2 worlds. Ours no longer exists and his is changed at the end! Not quite competely an End Of The World tale but an excellent movie - By Dawn's Early Light. Aeon Flux - the movie? Again our world has ended and theirs is changed at the end. |

12 Monkeys is a wonderful addition to my Why Can't We Time-Travel? genre, and maybe one of my favorites. I also like the fairly rare Jeff Daniels GRAND DISASTERS Time Travels where he runs across a group of time-travellers that are on a 'tour' of great disasters in Mankind's history.
I understand your reasons for Omen-Rosemary's and not Exorcist. Unfortunately, every time the Republicans are called winners in a public election, I have the same End Of World premonitions. |

I got Fukkatsu no hi in today, and while the quality of the transfer wasn't great, it's another interesting addition to this collection, and especially since it's outside of Hollywood's clutches.

i'm no expert so i'm not sure how many of these qualify - especially as the link to 'end-of-the-world' can become quite stretched
The Comet (1910) Comet's Comeback (1916) Crack In The World (1965) The Day The Earth Caught Fire (1961) Deluge (1933) Destroy All Monsters (1969) Dream Without End (1964) Earth Versus The Flying Saucers (1956) End Of The World (1916) La Fin du Monde (1930) Flash Gordon (1980) Gas-s-s! or it became necessary to destroy the world in order to save it! (1970) The H-Man (1958) Independence Day (1995) Krull (1983) The Last Man On Earth (1964) The Last Woman On Earth (1960) The Lord Of The Rings Mad Max (1979) Mars Attacks! (1996) The Matrix (1999) Noah's Ark (1929) The Omega Man (1971) Terminator (1984) Waking Up The Town (1925) War Games (1983) The War Of The Worlds (1953) War Of The Worlds Waterworld (1995) When Worlds Collide (1951) |

Hi
Many of the films listed on this thread are 'not quite end of the world but almost' so maybe Night of the Big Heat can be included, which I'd like to plug as it's based on a novel by one of my favourite of the 'apocalyptic-Johns' authors, John Lymington (others being John Wyndham and John Christopher). I was miffed that the film was set on some Scottish island when the book is set where I live, on the Isle of Wight (where Day of the Triffids ended up too) - can't see why the film makers changed that: I do prefer films to keep to the storyline of the original book (so best not to mention the 1962 Triffids film in my presence!!!). There's another film I can remember seeing on TV in the 70s or early 80s - probably a US TV movie - and not really relevant on this Britmovie forum (sorry!) but I can't trace it now. I'm sure it starred Lloyd Bridges (but doesn't appear to be in his IMDB filmography) and was about everyone but him disappearing - maybe time was frozen too, not sure - and I think everything came back to normal at the end (again, not sure about that) - memory is not one of my strong points! - but I do remember enjoying the film. Any ideas?? Nice thread everyone, keep it up! Pip Last edited by Pip; 20-09-2006 at 09:48 PM. |

'The Bed Sitting Room' is my favorite of this type of film. Let me also add Ray Milland's 'Panic in the Year Zero' , Kurosawai's 'I Live in Fear' , Aldrich's 'Kiss Me Deadly ' , Wender's 'The State of Things' , Tarkovsky's 'The Sacrifice' , and some people who dislike 'The Day After' vastly prefer the public TV version that was released concurrently with it :Testament...very much worth a look, and on DVD.
