Default Casualties of the DVD era

I transferred my taped copy of a TV broadcast "The Masks of Death" over to DVD last night, and, having enjoyed it hugely once again, thought I might like to purchase a commercial copy of it at some time in the future. I looked at the Amazon site and, what d'you know, found that it's only listed in the "used and New" section as a VHS tape. Why a cracking tale acted by a starry cast which includes Peter Cushing, Sir John Mills, Ray Milland, Anne Baxter, Anton Diffring and Gordon Jackson in a splendid production with a background score by the-then Master of the Queen's Music Malcolm Williamson is not available to buy in an up-to-date format is beyond me.
I've noticed that a number of highly-desirable films which used to be available in VHS form (and this is equally true of the American NTSC format issues) have never been re-released as DVDs.

Its a big marketplace out there and the DVD format isn't a decade old yet. I'm sure many more old titles will appear in the coming years.

I hope so, but I begin to despair when I can walk in to a shop and purchase "Attack of the Gila Monster" and "Creature from the Haunted Seas" but find a dearth of issues starring cinema greats like James Cagney, Bette Davis or George Sanders.
