Strange sentiments concerning "the cult of violence" from someone who, in an earlier thread, posted some laudatory remarks on a dvd issue of The Krays and included the phrase "It's stylish with graphic violence". Have you changed your mind since August?

Well now that I've seen it I can comment on it.
The actual assassination takes about 2 seconds of this 90 minute film. There is no applauding or glamourising of any cult of violence.

It is a generally well made documentary style drama looking at a "what if?" scenario. There's nothing outrageous about it winning awards.

Some theaters are dropping British film

Don't worry, this web interpreter is only referring to the subject of this Thread.

Default Similar title.........?

'Death of a Princess', a film from the 70s about the execution of a Saudi Princess. That caused a big row at the time. Freedom of speech vs er, Oil or something?

I agree with the Freedom of Speech argument.

I don't agree with people setting out to incite any particular group with a film.

I don't approve of murdering film directors whose work you have been 'offended' by.

I see stuff 'hyped' and outraged comments. If it's tosh or hype, I generally disregard it.

Some 'difficult' subjects, 'Craig & Bentley', 'Bloody Sunday' for example, have benefitted from TV/Film airing the subject.

We should never allow that freedom, sensibly done, to be taken away.

We should never allow any freedom to be taken away. We don't have much and should guard the little that remains.

Has "Intelligence" actually seen the film? If not, then he's expressing outrage at the IDEA of a film that dares to tackle a particular subject, rather than objecting to the way it does so. That strikes me as prejudicial to the idea of freedome of expression.

I do not like to get involved in this sort of discussion, but I cannot let this go uncountered...
the number given, is not the number of no-combatants 'murdered' by the US and UK... It is the total killed by BOTH sides... Including the factional fighting by different religious sects...

It actually does not bother me that much, when I hear people in other countries complaining about what the US does, but for some reason I find it disturbing that you would say that your OWN country is 'murdering' non-combatants...

Personally, while I do not support the way this war has been waged, I think that Iraq should have been invaded years earlier, when they tried to assassinate Bush Sr. Attempted assignation of the Head of state by a sovereign nation is(or should be) considered an act of war.

End of rant... Back to movie discussion... Nothing to see here... Move along... Move along...

EDIT Oh, just noticed your flag... You may not be British...

OK, I can see how people can object to the Iraq debacle... But do you seriously think that the invasion of Afghanistan was unjustified???
