Default Vintage Sherlock Holmes etc.

I'm not sure that this DVD has been mentioned here so I thought I'd do so now. It's three films on one disc and they are The Speckled Band (1931, with Raymond Massey), Silver Blaze (1937, with Arthur Wontner) and Blake of Scotland Yard (1936, with Ralph Byrd). I came across it when looking up Angela Baddely on play.com (she's in The Speckled Band).

They're pretty scratchy transfers but there's so little British stuff from the 30s out there I felt people here would be glad of this pointer if they didn't already know of the disc.

Hope this is useful!

Ted

Thanks Ted. I've got this DVD, and as you say the quality is pretty poor - but at least it's a chance to see these films that I wouldn't otherwise be able to.

By the by, I love the picture....brings to mind:

"If it be a natural thing....where do it come from....where do it go?" said in my best Ted Holmes voice!

Gee, it sounded more like Kathleen Harrison to me.

Cheers Rob

I am still living off the SHERLOCK ORG's radio MP3s. I wish the BEEB would open up more of their archives like this.

I have the 2 Holmes films on a ten-film set from Brentwood Home Video which I think are region free. In this set, Silver Blaze is known as Murder At The Baskervilles. It also contains Sign Of The Four (Arthur Wontner as Holmes), Triumph Of Sherlock Holmes (Arthur Wontner), A Study In Scarlet (Reginald Owen), SH And The Deadly Necklace (Christopher Lee) as well as four of the Rathbones. There's also 5 of Ronald Howard American TV series. The quality throughout is on the ropey side but definitely watchable. Good to have a copy of the rare ones at any rate.
