Sat through the movie version last night on one of the Sky film channels. I must say I found myself quite enjoying it!? I caught meself giggleing at the superb Derick Guyler, over the top as the school janitor. I think we all knew someone like him at school. The camping trip brought back memories of my own schools trips to Wicken Fen in East Anglia. They got it spot on. Bunks in a shed and teachers wandering around in dressing gowns, before slipping out for a pint or three in the local drinker.
Norman Bird was, as usual superb. Slipping into the part of camp superintendant easily. Every school camp had one!
My grandchildren go ski-ing or cruising with their school.

I watched it too. I may have watched the TV series as a very small
boy but I don't remember.

What struck me was how much John Alderton's character reminded me
of Hugh Grant.
