Smiffy, don't worry... I know he'll seen it soon. When Nicholson finishes work on THE QUEEN II and SOUND OF MUSIC is the only other film showing, he'll decide Julie Andrews, nuns and Nazis are a better use of his last moments on Earth as Hell finishes freezing over.

I almost never say "never" to a performer or filmmaker.
But I've been saying "never" to Robin Williams movies for over a decade now. Christine, you should give Fellini and Bergman another try. They are definitely not the best foreign directors, but 8 1/2 and The Seventh Seal are rather extreme examples to go by, to get a gauge of their art. For a better, more approachable and charming Fellini, go with The White Shiek and I Vitelloni. For a lighter, more interesting Bergman, go with Smiles of a Summer Night and Wild Strawberries. And Kurosawai for sure, should be given many tries. If Throne of Blood isn't you're fit, try The Hidden Fortress. If Yojimbo isn't up you're alley, give Ikiru a chance. And by all means, take chances on...High and Low, Dersu Uzala, Stray Dog, Dodes'Ka-den, and The Bad Sleep Well. And to Torquemada - Sound of Music is about the last Robert Wise film I'd recommend. that and Helen of Troy, and Rooftops, are his low ebbs as a creative director. Totally trite, immenently miss-able affairs. Star! is better. West Side Story the best. No one new (or inexperienced) with musicals should deprive themselves of: On the Town, Love me or Leave Me, The Pajama Game, Sweet Charity... and the great Ernst Lubitsch films ca.1929-34: The Love Parade, Monte Carlo, The Smiling Lieutenant, and The Merry Widow most especially. The imitation-Lubitsch's are often near as good: Rouben Mamoulian's Love me Tonight and Wm. Dieterle's Adorable. In fact, all Rouben Mamoulian and Stanley Donen musicals, are fine, except for Donen's first one (The Royal Wedding). Last word for now on the subject: Busby. Quote:
