Brilliant! I hadn't thought of choosing my own CD as a replacement score. How very true that the right score is important to a Silent. For me, the right score for Abel Gance's "Napoleon" is, as you say, the Carl Davis score, not the Coppola one. Along those lines, I applaud Turner Classic Movies for generating interest in Silent film among young composers and offering incentives, such as their following annual competition. All the best, Barbara ----------------------- Young Film Composers Competition TURNER CLASSIC MOVIES PRESENTS THE 8TH ANNUAL YOUNG FILM COMPOSERS COMPETITION TCM's Young Film Composers Competition is an annual event sponsored by Turner Classic Movies and Film Music Magazine. For those who live to make music, this is a unique opportunity for young composers to bring their musical vision to film. When the Young Film Composers Competition began in 2000, it was inspired by a desire to bring unseen films to life and by TCM's long-standing commitment to film preservation. TCM has more than 100 silent films that have not been seen since their theatrical debut, as they were originally performed with live musical accompaniment and have no recorded score. Thanks to past competitions, new scores have been written for Camille (1921), starring Alla Nazimova and Rudolph Valentino, two Lon Chaney gems: Ace of Hearts (1921) and Laugh, Clown, Laugh (1928), The Rag Man (1925) with Jackie Coogan, The Temptress (1926) with Greta Garbo, Souls for Sale (1923) with Eleanor Boardman as well as The Show (1927) with John Gilbert and Renée Adorée which are now shown regularly on TCM. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Grand prize is $15,000 and the opportunity to score the 1924 silent film Beau Brummel with a premiere of the completed score and film on Turner Classic Movies.
