Default Oscar chat

I find the Oscars infuriatingly hyped up and desperately dull at the same time..what a contradiction. This years nominations for me were pretty lame. Why "The Queen" has attracted so much attention is a little beyond me , was it the subject matter, Helen Mirren or the corgis?
I was muffed that "the Departed" won best film, that Pans Labyrinth did not get best foreign film and Alan Arkin was voted best supporting actor in "Little Miss Sunshine" (personally one of my films of the year) Alan Arkin only had a small part, perhaps like Scorsese he got it due to his age?
No films from last year seem to stand above what has gone before.

Hope this year sees an improvement and more attention paid to non-US films.
