Scrooge with Alistair Sim is one of the very best Christmas films of all time in my opinion.

No arguments here, I actually don't mind the colourised version that was given away last year with newspapers.

Default Christmas Films

Love the Alastair Sim film but also like the George C. Scott version.

I also watch The Apartment at Christmas

Elf is another charming - and hillarious - modern Xmas film. Watch it every year - laugh, cry, singalong at the end.

Ed Asner is Santa!

All men leak.

First post here - hi everyone!

Reading through this thread I must say I'm surprised that a few people seem to like The Polar Express. When I first sat down to watch it I thought that I would enjoy it too, but I must say I found it strangely unsatisfying. I think the term "magical" is throw around a bit too much these days :)

In no particular order, here are a few of my Christmas fave's:

The Woman in Black - Nothing to do with Christmas, but not unlike the "ghost stories for christmas" series.

The Box of Delights - A childhood favourite of mine.

National Lampoons Christmas Vacation - Yep, sorry to say I love this film too!

The League of Gentlemen Christmas special - Just about the funniest thing I have ever seen.

The Santa Claus series - A guilty pleasure.

Hello Benny:

Thanks for your post. There is a film you mention I have not heard of: The Box of Delights. I looked it up and it sounds like its worth watching and would be a good choice for my family.

Also - it's a sequel to John Masefield's book The Midnight Folk, which was a favorite of mine.

It will probably be difficult to find here in the US - but I haven't started looking yet!

Thanks

If you find find a copy grab it quick, I'm pretty sure it is either going or has gone out of print (in the UK at least).

Did anybody mention "White Christmas" with Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye and Rosemary Clooney? Great musical fun.

It's "Miracle on 34th Street", not 54 or 57.

And for Brit films, from t.v. with Robson Green, "Christmas Lights" about two feuding neighbors and Christmas decorations. Also, "Christmas Carol" with Eddie the loan shark. Wonderful mod retelling of the story.
