How about Ralph Richardson in "The Holly and the Ivy".

For years that was a Christmas day regular on Australian television.

Default Favourite Christmas Films

One film that my family & relatives have made a ritual to watch every Christmas is NATIONAL LAMPOON'S CHRISTMAS VACATION (1989) starring Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo.
Always funny no matter how many times you watch it.
I think we can all relate to 'odd' relatives like Cousin Eddy that come calling at this time of the year.
Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without Christmas with the Griswald's.
Anyone else have a film or program that they make a habit of watching every festive season?

Dave.

I always liked Denholm Elliott in THE SIGNALMAN, which seemed to be a staple at Christmas time on BBC1. One of the few films which I have thought were genuinally frightening. ghostly

Have to say it though, and no offence, but I've always thought that Chevy Chase is as funny as a kick in the balls! Just don't get him at all!

Cheers
Nigel

Lordy, is it really only 12 months since this topic last appeared. eek! I'm getting old.

I'll watch Alastair Sim in Scrooge next week (again) and maybe dig out DVDs of A Warning to the Curious or Oh Whistle and I'll Come to You. (unless those nice people at the BBC transmit them again this year)

Try not to miss "A Christmas Story" (1983) - Jean Shepherd's story about his life in '40s Indiania. As Keith Phipps says in his review, "It's not just any BB gun, it's a Red Ryder BB gun."

Can't let the season go by without watching the Bumpuses dogs tear apart the turkey in "Christmas Story", and joining the fun at the Chinese restaurant for duck and caroling.

Tomorrow is promised to no one.

What about "The Amazing Mr. Blunden" with the delicious Dianna Dors? I think she is superb in this film.

"How about dat, a? How about dat?

Just caught the last 45 mins of 'Scrooge' - in COLOUR!!! Not made my mind up about that just yet. What do others think about colourizing old black and white filums?

Good morning boys.

Was that ''color'' Scrooge broadcast on five? If so, shame on that station...thank goodness I videoed it a few years ago in glorious b/w, now for my daughter - she'll be old enough to sample it in during a Christmas later this decade

It's got to be Scrooge with Alistair Sim. I used to have a copy in black and white on video but alas, it's disappeared. I don't think I would want to see it in colour - that would take all the atmosphere out of it for me. Thanks Sanddevil for reminding me about The Signalman - utterly chilling! A great christmas story. I watched it a few years ago late one night. I will look out for it again on TV.

Default Christmas

I have to agree that A Christmas Story and National Lampoons Christmas vacation are great - my kids love them too! BUT .... these are American? any good suggestions for British Christmas films?

Oliver with Jack Wild and Mark Lester always reminds me of Christmas as it seems to be shown every holiday season.

HOLLY & IVY shows its stage roots, but nevertheless is a good, atmospheric, film to run into Christmas ; particularly these days, when we rarely seem to have any Xmas snow....

I was just about to add that.

It sounds like there is a market for a new British Christmas film :

"Oh! Pete!"

We'd be Better-off OUT of the EU !
