a VHS recording uses fragile magnetic tape that degrades over time - whether you watch it or not.

Don't count on those tapes lasting longer than a few years

If I were You, I’d convert my precious VHS to DVD format

I have videos that i bought in 1980 and they work great maybe not as good as a dvd in picture quality but still good to watch, so i think that they last just as long if not longer on video

But nobodys proved that DVD will last that long

Ditto! I have some of the tapes my father recorded, over 15 years old. They play perfectly well. I'll keep the fingers crossed for the same as to the DVDs' endurance.

Btw, that wallpaper "joke" could cost someone a coronary! A thing so brilliant I haven't heard lately... It makes me think of decorating the walls b4 I move out of the flat...

Just an idea...

(By the way, I got absolutely zero bids on EBay for mine. I thought maybe my written marketing skills just needed some work. Ya think? "Husband's internal organs for sale. Available on demand. -Betty the Butcher" Although "Betty's" not my real name - "Christine the Crusher" didn't sound all that inviting for organ sales, after all, and I know that alliterative brand-names sell better.)

Hubby gave me the impression he had no sense of humor about this.

That's OK. I don't think I could get much for his sense of humor anyway.
I wouldn't get much for my hubby on ebay either, If i gave him away for nothing they would still say too expensive

You know how when people move into a new house they usually change the wallpaper, stripping off the old paper that you put up.

When you next decorate, before you put up the new wallpaper, get a pot of red paint and scrawl something like

I shall kill again

on the bare wall. Then paper over it and leave it to be discovered.

The only trouble is that you don't get to see their faces when they discover it

Steve
I'll do that and ask my mother in law to help next time i decorate and tell her it was me alone that decorated the last time

Please dont throw any video's away especially recorded off the tv, their are lots of people who collect that kind of stuff(myself included) even just for the adverts, some of that tv stuff might never see light of day again on tv, as for putting it on dvd and then throwing them away, I've done that, then found a few months later dvd's went bad and I'd lost my recordings.

Do you have any idea what might be on the tapes that you recorded off the TV?

So it was you!! How amazing that I should have moved into your old house...

I suppose a nice variation of that might be, I know where you live

Back on the subject, it is difficult to know what to do with stuff. We videoed every other film that came on back in the day, shelves groaning..... But you never have time to watch them (apart from the Patrick McGoohan stuff of course). It is a question of finding the right person. I wonder if the answer might be to make them 'FREE' on e-bay, but demand proof of interest (a web-site/blog address to demonstrate genuine enthusiasm) and then just charge carraige or facilitate collection. That might attract the right person.

I had a couple of hundred VHS tapes that took up so much space so I decided that I would cull them on the basis that if I hadn't watched a particulat tape in the past year it had to go. This left me with approx 30 which I am converting to DVD and am now thankful of the space saved.
