the thought that some of our members think nothing of purchasing second hand underwear (used), especially sexy undies as a pressie for the wife, makes me feel.....well.....frankly disturbed, I didn't know charity shops sold other peoples discarded undies.....Im shocked............ I hope they boil wash them before resale!

We sometimes go to a large car boot sale on a Sunday mainly for the exercise as it takes quite a while to walk round (2 hours) but the way some people lazily set up their stalls of DVDs, videos and books, often in no particular order and in some cases just thrown on to the ground, it makes browsing very difficult. On one well laid out stall I picked up a DVD of the Callan film for £1. I haven't watched it yet but it is the remade Armchair Cinema story from 1974, and it had Michael Da Costa and Don Henderson in it, who I also saw last week in the Sweeney pilot Regan made around the same time.

Michael Da Costa seemed to be in a lot of similar series in a career spanning from 1960 to 1977 and then nothing after that in IMDB. Anyone know what happened to him? He seemed a natural to play petty villainous "makes your skin crawl" greasy type characters!

My local soccer club has a twice weekly boot sale in the car park. They used to supply stalls for the sellers, but they were all cleared out after the club got promoted to the championship on the grounds that they would need the extra space. Well, they got quickly relegated and the stalls have not reappeared which means bad backs for all the buyers.

Bah Humbug.

Default DVD disaster
Hi folks,
A cautionary tale: when buying in charity shops, stay alert and be prepared to act quickly......

I found a nice collectable DVD in a charity shop on Saturday - took it to the counter to buy (the DVD discs were kept separately). The well-meaning (?) lady serving got out the appropriate disc and, before I had a chance to intervene, grabbed a filthy old bit of rag and "polished" the disc for me - completely ruining it with deep scratches and gunge all over it! Then , to cap that, when I still offered to buy it in case by any remote chance I could repolish and salvage the disc, she told me that I couldn't buy it as they aren't allowed to sell faulty items in case a buyer sues the shop!!!



EEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKK!!!

Keep an eye on Poundland if you have one near you found Callan, Breaker Morant, I Bought A Vimpire Motorbike, Christie Marlrys Own Double Entry, Trigger Men and As You Like It (1936, Laurence Olivier)
Also found the first series of Richard Greens Robin Hood in a Charity shop for £5.50

Are you a fan of Mr. Baker ? I went to a showing of the movie "Checkpoint" on Saturday. It was organised by the Aston Martin Owner's Club and they had invited a few knowledgeable celebrities to give talks on it. The consensus was that Mr. Baker was not a very nice guy to work with, least of all because of his demands that even the film crew, let alone the actors, must pay poker with him every night and that most of them regularly lost their per diem expenses to him. Certainly, the character he played in the film was not a very nice chap !
