Default What are your twenty favourite films and how many are British?

In no particular order (except for the first) my overall top twenty is:

Midnight Run
Syriana
Assault on Precinct 13 (the real version)
The Thing
Alien
The Third Man
Dr Strangelove
The Long Good Friday
Get Carter
A Matter of Life and Death
Brassed Off
Funeral in Berlin
Three Days of the Condor
Manhunter
Eldorado
Vanishing Point (again the grown up version)
Downfall
Treasure of the Sierra Madre
Once Upon a Time in America
The Godfather Part 2

And my British only list is:

Gumshoe
Alien
A Matter of Life and Death
Brassed Off
Funeral in Berlin
The Third Man
The Hill
The Rocky Horror Picture Show
The Abominable Dr Phibes
Saturday Night and Sunday Morning
If....
Dr Strangelove
The Long Good Friday
Get Carter
Zulu
The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp
Local Hero
V for Vendetta
The Blue Lamp
This Sporting Life

I know these things are usually top 10's, but I just couldn't keep the numbers down.

Why do the The Third Man, Long Good friday and Get Carter appear twice- I know they are the dogs doodars but also taking up 3 spaces on your list that could have been filled with others?

Presumably because one is a world list and the other is a British only list. British things can be part of the world

I'll tell you why - it was Saturday night and I'd had a few sherberts.

Torquemada, your thread is irresistable. but limited to twenty? After revising the first draft three times, I still, had 38. I'm sure I could list 3 or 4 dozen musicals, alone. Well, here's 20:
Brief Encounter - Beautifly done
the Busy Body
City Lights - Silent Chaplin
D O A
Day of the Jackal
Dial M for Murder
Enter Laughing
the Haunting ( the one with Julie Harris )
His Girl, Friday
It's Love, Again - Matthews best, and she was- the best
My Fair Lady - this one was much better in the theatre with surround sound
Oklahoma!
On the Avenue
Rehearsal For Murder - not sure this was a movie, might've been a tv pgm.
Seance on a Wet Afternoon
Slightly Honorable
Sullivan's Travels
Till We Meet Again - very good mood
Tintypes - this was a broadway show on an educational pgm.
the Uninvited
Don't, always, know which were Britsh. Many American films had a supporting cast that was 90 % British born.
Brief Encounter It's love, Again and Seance were and (I think) the Jackal.
You should be commended for starting this thread.
