It is now a regular Saturday and Sunday chore to check all the newspapers to see what DVD they are giving away this week. I fully approve of this type of promotion when the DVD is included inside the newspaper, but beware of the small print as some newspapers on the banner front page state "Free DVD" however they require the reader to join a postal rental company, or purchase one or more DVD's to receive the free DVD.

The one and only time I kept a newspaper DVD was when a copy of “Brief Encounter” was made available BUT when we viewed it, it had no end titles!

Just ‘THE END’, then nothing, finished, kaput. I felt as though I had been short changed (even though I didn’t pay for it directly) and that there was something missing in my life!

My wife and I quite often watch British B&W films, and the fun is to watch the end titles and see who was in it; although we are getting quite used to identifying various stalwarts of post war British cinema, such as the lovely and ever present Miles Malleson as the bumbling doctor, vicar, bishop, postman etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.

Hi everyone, a bit of a longshot but I'll ask anyhow, does anyone have the Coronation street 'classic moments' DVD that was free with the Sun newspaper at Tesco today that they don't want and could send to me please?

I've been at work all day and haven't had an opportunity to travel the eight miles to my nearest Tesco, and I don't really want go out in the icy conditions this evening in the hope they'll have one left.

I'll pay the cost of postage by returning some stamps to the sender, please PM if you can help, many thanks.......

i missed some of these dvds when they were issued. I went to ebay and bought them there. They were very cheap too. I do remember seeing the Coronation Street dvds but unfortunately I don't have any I could even give you.

On ebay, type in freebie dvds and scroll through. Or just try Coronation Street on the regular dvd tab and it will probably be the nearer the cheaper price range.

    Hope this helps.

What happened to the practice of newspapers giving away DVDs? There were loads of them (I have three shoeboxes full) and then the supply just stopped. I can't imagine it made any money, so what was the reasoning behind it?

    Desperation
All newspapers are losing readers and that makes them a less attractive proposition for advertisers and the ads are their biggest source of profit.

By giving stuff away they can claim more readers and so can charge the advertisers more
