Of course,the question is about favourite non-Britsh films. Here are some of my favourite non-American/British films.
The Cabinet of Dr Caligari 1919;
Nosferatu 1921;
M 1931;
Le Grande Illusion 1937;
Les Enfants Du Paradis 1945;
Miracle In Milan 1951;
Les Diaboliques 1954;
Seven Samurai;1954;
Das Boot 1981;
Cinema Paradiso 1989;
Although not a Ingmar Bergman fan,I would like to see The Seventh Seal 1957.
I found pre-war European cinema had a more mature sense of dialogue than that of the British and US film industries.

What was it that you liked about "Last Tango in Paris"? eek!

I love everything about bertolluci's last tango,it's look,brando's intense performance,and i like the concept of the fact the relationship initially only existed within the confines of the appartment,no names personnal info etc.

Also it has to be OLIVIO(an olive oil based spread) it's better for your Heart. wink
cheers Ollie.

Maybe not absolute favourites, but I always thought that the old Hollywood film-makers were rather good at films with a certain "haunting" quality such as "The Uninvited", "Portrait of Jennie" and the splendid "The Enchanted Cottage",the last one guaranteed to bring a lump to the eye and a tear to the throat. They really don't make 'em like that anymore.

I quite agree, Al! :)

As I've said on these boards before, The Uninvited is a superb film. Just wish it would be shown again on TV, all channels seem obsessed with stuff from 1999 onwards

The NTSC edition of The Uninvited now seems to have been deleted but the last time I looked was still available from a few sources at exorbitant prices. Glad I bought mine when it was readily available!
I have noticed one or two pre-1999 rarities popping up on TV lately. In my opinion BBC need not have bothered with "Trouble in the Glen" yesterday which I thought was dire, in spite of the interesting cast. As has been pointed out elsewhere on this site, several "Falcon" films are soon to be broadcast. Let's hope that someone with imagination is now in charge of scheduling film-broadcasts for the BBC. :)

Yeah! I sat through 'Trouble in the Glen' and in spite of Margaret Lockwood, Forrest Tucker and Victor MacGlagen and the beutiful scenery - it was a bit of a dud. Better on the other side, or was it on t he same side: 'The Foreman Went to France'. :)

Good morning boys.

One of my all-time favourites is "The Last Picture Show".

Everything about it - from the brilliant black and white cinematography, to the inspired casting and intelligently crafted script is perfect.

The locations are obviously real, and give it an almost documentary feel.

A absolute gem, that I never tire of !
