Patice Leconte is one of France's best-known directors. His films include: Le Parfum d'Yvonne, starring the lovely Sandra Majani Le Mari de Coiffeuse (aka The Hairdresser's Husband) La Veuve de Saint-Pierre, with Juliette Binoche and Daniel Auteuil Ridicule, with Charles Berling, Judith Godreche, Jean Rochefort More info on Tango here if I'm allowed to post this link to a 'rival' site: DVD Times - Tango You can try Amazon France for any that don't have British editions. Jean-Pierre Jeunet - best known for Amelie - made a very funny film called Delicatessen many years before. Another good French director is Bertrand Tavernier, whose films include: L627 - a cop movie or 'policier' set in Paris L'appat (aka the Bait) Laissez Passer. Not forgetting Claude Berri classic story of Jean de Florette and Manon des Sources, which were both recently shown on Channel Four. On to Spanish stuff, Bigas Luna's bawdy humour - as featured in Eurotrash (it would be) - is evident in: Jamon Jamon La Teta et la Luna (the Tit and the Moon) as well as his first film, less bawdy, but more 'explicit' in places, called Las Edades de Lulu (the Ages of Lulu) Julio Medem's are listed in Spanish here (I'm afraid my knowledge of the language is somewhat limited) but I think this is a nice site! I find most films with Jack Lemmon eminently watchable ; THE APARTMENT : IT SHOULD HAPPEN TO YOU : THE FORTUNE COOKIE : SOME LIKE IT HOT : MISSING ; etc. The man was just a class act !

Anything with James Cagney, Laurel & Hardy or James Stewart. Some months ago a movie cable channel here showed Igrid Bergman's Swedish movies, including Intermezzo, the one that brought her to Hollywood for the remake. They were great. :) I like the Back To The Future Trilogy and could watch them again and again (and have). To hear the patter of horsey feet. Thanks For The Buggyride recorded by Percival Mackey |
