RIP French film star Claude Jade

Claude Jade, Truffaut's star, dies at 58.



I remember her for Stolen Kisses and Bed and Board, opposite Jean-Pierre Leaud. I think the nearest she got to a British film was Hitchcock's (admittedly awful) Topaz, in 1969.

I'm glad I found this thread at 'Who's Online' - a pity there've been no replies until now. Original poster Dave said it all three years ago. I really liked her in those Truffaut films. She looked so classy and stylish and worked very well with Jean-Pierre Leaud. They could - and should - have gone on for years playing the likeable young couple and I'd have loved to seen more of them. Both Baisers Voles (Stolen Kisses) and Domicile Conjugal (Bed And Board) ARE available but far too expensive at £14.98 and £17.99 () respectively (Amazon UK prices) so I hope they'll be greatly reduced soon, preferably as part of another boxset for Francois Truffaut, one of my favourite film directors. I do of course already have her appearance in Mr. Hitchcock's Topaze and hope I can capture something that does her justice. In the meantime, here's a nice photo of her, possibly from the 1970s.







A lovely girl, especially in those Truffaut films, who, unbearably, was afflicted with cancer of the eye towards the end of her life. I was BADLY affected when I read the details at Wikipedia last year, very distressed. These things should never happen. Just giving this thread a much-needed 'bump' after noticing it (again) at 'Who's Online' just now ...



I didn't know it at the time but that last post was compiled the day my father died. Coincidentally, the obituary I've linked below was published on his birthday. Very eerie. To happier things now and I enclose two delightful pictures of Claude with 'The Master of Suspense' during the making of Topaz:

The locations included Paris, Copenhagen, Wiesbaden, California and New York.

No idea where these pictures were taken (more extensive research might help!).

Eighteen months since that last post and I can at last report that both films are now much more reasonably priced: Stolen Kisses is £6.93 and Bed and Board £6.99. That's better! Claude's 2004 autobiography, Baisers envoles is also available at the website.
