A few old haunts revisited. Alas most now gone. Brought back memories of sitting in The Odeon Marble Arch (a huge screen) one very sunny afternoon all on my own watching Chritopher Reeve in Superman The Movie...Saddo



And trying to sneek into the Odeon in Reading to watch X films...when I was clearly only 13

Moor that was a marvellous website.I was able to download a photo of my favourite cinema Odeon Golders Green.I have been looking for a photo of it for some time.I am sure you are aware of Allan Eyeles great books.Also the Cinema Theatres association.Anywone interested in cinema buildings should belong to this.If anyone is interested the link up to the CTA website

The Woolwich and Eltham Well Hall Odeon's are now wine bars, unfortunately, unless you like a drink.

The Woolwich Odeon, was just across the road from The Granada chain, and 5 minutes walk, took you to the local ABC, those were the days.

My view is that if another use is found for a cinema which maintains the decor and keeps it open and maintained well thats a lot better than for example the current plight of the Granada Walthamstow.The only pub i go to on a regular basis is the Coronet in the Holloway Road.Wetherspoons have converted the former ABC cinema into a pub,and i think that they have done it very well.If you are in that area any time pop in and have a look for yourself.It is just up the road from Holloway Road tube station.It is better than having a block of flats or supermarket on the site.

There is a complete catalogue of pictures of the building: Worcester Odeon opened after the 2nd World War, and luckily for us, Odeon created a complete photo album to show off this new jewel in their crown.

The best thing seems to be active posting going on by people using flickr etc. to achieve an awesome database. You can look by city to see your home-town and often, where the webmaster hasn't got an image, someone has posted one from their own collection.

It's a great site for anyone with fond memories...However, be warned...None of my favourite cinemas from my childhood are still in existence (not too surprising) It is so sad to see the photos of the buildings in their current state(s) or worse still, not there at all. Try to temper this with the older photos of the original buildings and keep a smile on your face.

Reminds me of a beautiful 35mm cinema/training film made by Rank and Directed by James Hill called 'This Way Please'...it showed how to run an Odeon and Gaumont cinema...all the staff were shown, even the Projectionist servicing all the bits and bobs as well as running the film.I think they used two cinemas for filming. Many actors played different parts including the Manager, Cleaner and Usherette...a joy to watch...I wonder if a print still exists?
