The appearance of the aberrant apostrophe is often known as the "Greengrocer's apostrophe" because you often see signs like
Apple's - only 20p each
It is also erroneously seen in things like
the 1960's
The one that used to fool me was in a sentence like
The car had burst it's tyre. because it seems that it should be a possessive. But
it's should only ever be used as an abbreviation for
it is.
