Default Gone with the wind

In choosing the leading lady for this film there was a lot of controversy about who it should be, when Vivien Leigh was chose there were prtotests about her because she was English.Someone remarked "better an english rose than a Yankee, does anyone know who said that?

From what I recall Selznick thought she wasn't ready and a lot is owed to Korda (think he was an ex-lover), who owned her contract and got an MGM picture deal in exchange. Pre-production had already started when she went to the US for a screen test - iirc it was either a collegue or family member that told Selznick they had a Scarlet.
