There is supposed to be remake of Hitchcock's The Birds,or should it be another version of Daphne DU Maurier's classic book. Naomi Wattsis rumoured to be playing Melanie Daniels. I am not sure whether the new film will be set in California, like Hitch's original,or Cornwall,as in Du Maurier's book. I am pretty cool about this remake,as I was not a great fan of the Tippi Hedren/Rod Taylor version (I must admit, after North By North West,Hitch's next decent film was Frenzy),although I am hoping for a setting in Cornwall.

I guess there's no reason not to return to original literary sources for a film, even if it is not the first time. However I am guessing this will not be a second adaptation of Du Maurier's novel, but a remake of Hitchcock's version of it. Hopefully they won't go the whole Van Sant on it.

Tend to agree that they will remake the movie rather than 'make' the book. I do feel though that an adaptation of the book would lessen the chance of negative comparisons. The effects can be improved inevitably but I have my doubts as to whether they could improve the tension/storytelling.
Now Topaz theres a fine film to remake......
I watched the remake of the French classic Bob Le Flambeur recently. It was awful. No style, terrible script and a surprisingly wooden performance from Nick Nolte.
