What a splendid looking building that is, compared to some of the eyesores which are built nowadays

Old cinema are not just were films were shown but are quite interesting architectually and if possible should be preserved .a change of use to say a bingo hall or restuarant public house are much better than something that is only ready for the bulldozer

Better a building in use rather than a derilict building or block of flats.

name='orpheum']Just to mention that i have just received the CTA 2007 Christmas DVD>It includes cinema ads a Look At Life, and in particular Odeon Cavalcade made in the 1960s for The Arts Council. It includes of many lost buildings together with interviews with Lily Deutsch(Oscars widow)and various archirects.Highly recommended to anyone interested in cinemas and their architecture. If you want the address to send your £5 you can contact me or the Cinema Theatre Association.

I'd be interested in buying this DVD

"The Majestic" (2001) might be inspirational.

Does anyone remeber the cartoon cinema at Waterloo Station? Or was it a news cinema?

There were three cinemas close to me that I used to frequent in my youth. Sadly all now part of history.

    Embassy - Welwyn Garden City

    The Curzon - Hatfield

    Odeon - St Albans.

I remember this very well.It is by the top of Platform 1.The stairs leading to it are still there. It was News and Cartoons till 3pm and thereafter it was a rep cinema. If you were lucky you could get a Will Hasy or Crazy Gang film.It was closed many years ago alas buit i have very fond memories of half term spent at that cinema.I was also present at the last performance of the last newsreel cinema in London at Victoria Station, around 1979.They were great places.
