I know the IMDB is not definitive,so what is the proceedure to question or add to a films cast list or any changes to its listing and what kind of evidence or fact is needed for an alteration.

    Thanks

Second - click on help in the IMDB page and look at the adding info link - that is very informative.

I submitted a TV production which had not been inlcuded and existed in an image and a few lines on a web page. The URL was useful in providing evidence - which was limited to some of the cast/date/TV company and title and original dramatist. That got accepted so it seems that you can provide some evidence that the item actually existed it will be accepted.

I frequently submit updates and corrections to IMDB. Their procedure for determining what goes in and what stays out seems arbitrary. Some are altered within days, even when I haven't provided any evidence, just an assertion. Other times my submissions are totally ignored.

I tried for months and months to get a piece of trivia corrected that stated that the castle in Hammer's Dracula (1958) was a real castle in the Highlands of Scotland, and is now a hotel (with decor "much the same"). To anyone who has even the vaguest knowledge of Hammer's history, it's a laughable claim, and yet I submitted the correction about seven or eight times over the course of several months, eventually including references to scholarly works. It was still ignored.

In the end, I made an appeal for someone else to submit the correction, and it was done within days.

    Bizarre.

Yes, they go a lot by your reputation in providing good information.

When you start you have a middling "unknown" reputation and you'll probably have to provide some supporting evidence like the address of a reputable web site that confirms it.

As your reputation builds then you won't have to provide that so often for cast & crew additions and corrections and things like that. It's still usually necessary for getting a new title listed.

But if they find you've been giving them bad information (and more than just a few understandable mistakes) then your reputation will plummet and you'll be back to having to prove everything again - or you could even be banned from contributing.

As for how to actually do it...

Once you've registered just click on the Update button at the bottom of the page for every title and every person in the database.

If you have any problems, give me a shout, either publicly in a thread like this one or in a PM. I've been contributing since 1994 or so.

I'm a regular on the Contributors Help Board where experienced contributors help those that are struggling

When I started they mainly had information about American films so I started to add information about British films, especially those of Powell & Pressburger.

But I warn you, contributing to the IMDb can become addictive

    Steve
