What would you rate the most shocking video nastie ever. From the original DPP hit list....

For me it has to be 'The Beast In Heat' and Cannibal Holocaust (GoVideo)

Well for me it's either Margaret Thatcher at a Conservative Party Conference or possibly ...

    ... go on ...

... you know I'm going to say it ...

Definately, the original Tobe Hooper's Texas Chainsaw Massacre - a classic that doesn't date.

Are there any British 'video nasties'? That would a more appropriate question for this site.

IIRC it was placed on some list of other .... but having watched it quite recently it is, in fact rather, tame.

    Something I've wondered!

I think most of the American Movies that are classed as 'Video Nasty' were made in the mid to late 70's, when the British were offering rubbish like 'The Stud', and 'Adventures of a Plumbers mate', I guess 'The Omen' series of Movies would be the nearest we got........unless anyone knows different?

From IMDB's trivia section of Expose:

'This film, together with Xtro (1983), were the only British films on the original DPP 74 list of official video nasties.'

Both EXPOSE and XTRO exist in cut and uncut forms, so the "rather tame" version may be an edit that's simply missing all the "juicy bits".

Not that many of the nasties were American, far more were European, and especially Italian.

The version I have is supposed to be uncut .... do you know the running times of both versions?

Derek Ford’s Sex Express a.k.a. Diversions (1975), http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0124409/ has moments that are far more nasty than Xtro or Expose, but it has never been released on tape here (only in the US and Germany), so didn’t make the video nasties list.

Yes, you're right Mr. Cairns, I recall some dreadful European Movies that were badly dubbed into English in the 70's, I was probably thinking of titles like 'I spit on your grave', which I've seen once and will never see again

I think 'Straw Dogs' was once on a UK 'banned' list, but I'd hardly call it a 'nasty', just 'controversial' for it's subject matter, I wonder if 'Clockwork Orange' would have been placed on the UK list had it not already been withdrawn by Stanley Kubrick?

Yes, I was disturbed when I first saw it mid-80's, I've seen it again within the past couple of years, it's still strong, but the special effects (explosion cloud) are of it's time

It's definitely the most disturbing film I've ever seen but I wouldn't class it as nasty because none of the upsetting scenes were gratuitous.
