Hollywood blunder

Around 1960 Columbia pictures released the film,The notorious landlady. The main three stars were Americans,the rest of the cast were British actors. Filmed in Hollywood,the setting was London. Kim Novak might have killed her husband. They,the film company did a good job recreating a London setting,a few inserts of actual London settings were used. The blunder,the cars. The cars were right hand drive,missing from these cars,the circle tax disc. I also noticed this same blunder in the 1960 film,Midnight lace. I have also noticed this same blunder,here in Canada. Many US film companies film their tv series here in Toronto. Quite often you may see Chicago,Boston,and other police cars parked on one of our streets. The blunder,the proper pnumber plates are on these cars,missing from the windshield,the inspection inspected every year.

That wasn't the only blunder on The Notorious Landlady .... the other one was to keep Max off screen for most of the film!

Hollywood still seems to have a strange idea of how things are in the UK. You would have thought the Brit actors would have put the director straight.

One thing I did notice whilst traveling in Europe recently was an advert for a car that I had seen in England but when I saw it abroad they had inverted the film so that the cars looked as if they were driving on the other side of the road. Also the number plates used letters and numbers that were all symmetrical (Y's & A's etc.)

Also in MIDNIGHT LACE when they walk into the local pub, everyone is either wearinga bowler hat or a flat cap.

(On a more minor note the cadence on the telephone is an American tone and not British.)

Oh yes, these movies provide a lot of fun . Has anyone else noticed the convluted routes taken by taxis in these scenes. No one ever bothered to check the geography of London streets when using stock back projection plates . I mean a taxi ride from Marble arch to Charing Cross takes in the tower of London , tower bridge , and Trafalgar Square!and Buckingham palace . What a laugh !

Ill watch the film tonight, this is interesting as Ron also pointed out some errors, but I as sure the location was London, I realize about the stock footage they use, in a lot of films, just a bit disappointed as thought she had been here, there is a part with a London Bus but of course they could have used on in the States. thanks for the info all.

been reading that Doris took ill during the filming of Midnight Lace, as she didnt like the part, it was out of her comfort zone I think she also wore her own gown in the film that she wore to the Oscar ceremony for Pillow Talk.

I love the movie Rebecca but have you noticed how fast the scenery moves when they come up from taking the dog on the beach, and inside the mansion at one point when Joan Fontaine is going up the wide staircase , you can see all the camera lights above her. still a great film but I found, the new mrs de winter a trifle devious with her employer at the start of the film, and you do know that she never had name either, she was referred to sometimes as "the child" love it though great film.

I saw a Tom & Jerry cartoon which had a Robin Hood character in it with a Cockney accent!



I realise that Tom & Jerry cartoons are not renowned for their factual accuracy, but I'm sure this mistake wasn't deliberate!

have you noticed that in American films if they have an English actor he or she sounds extra phoney English, it just doesnt come over right at all.
