    Why, I will tell you.

    They seem to have all this action rubbish/sex rubbish/ and the comedies are not actually funny are they. I would prefer to watch a Good Brit Flick (without Hugh Grant) in it, and at least they are better acted.

    Did anyone know it was Hollywood that destroyed the Italian film industry, and all it really is, is cultural imperialism.

    At least Bollywood, should be the Mumbai industry has retained its own identity. The actors over there are rubbishy, but it depends on the script.

    At least I more and more dislike Hollywood movies made during the Hays Code (production code) era, 1936 - 1966.

    Too many innuendo's, scripts far from "real-live", the de-grading of women (promoting "kitchen-wives", independent women had to die), the awfull Hollywood endings, the exploiting of actresses (too many of them had the bottle as their best friend), etc.

    Hays Code: violence OK, no (sighns of) nudity however.

    For instance, filmposter allowed by the production code (slapping women):





    However, I like the Hollywood pre-Code films and I am glad movies of that era are more regularly released on DVD. Often very naive, natural and seductive films. No feeling of "cultural imperialism" (so far).



    I am not fond of the no-sex Bollywood and prefer un-cut films; I, as a moviegoer, like to censor, no paternalistic behavour towards movies by gouvernments.

    I agree that pre-Code movies are the best. But I have to disagree about the later 1930s/early 1940s Hollywood movies. I (and I am the ultimate card-carrying feminist) do not find the screwball comedies degrading to women- what about Myrna Loy/William Powell, or Cary Grant/Kate Hepburn for example? Or Jean Arthur? Or Mary Astor? Or Marlene? Or Claudette Colbert? And as for Fred and Ginger...

    Patrick McGoohan is fluent in Chinese, watch a Columbo show and see him speaking it. Besides he will not want to be in the shadow of Hugh Grant.

    I think those Hollywood folk love Hugh Grant cos of his Englishness, nothing else.

    That film with Gene Hackman was ruined cos of.........Hughie.

    You are talking about thirty years of American films. You dislike all of them because of the hays code?

    Bollywood wants YOUNG actors/actresses. Hughie maybe ideal for it cos he is limited like some of those names out there. If Hugh Grant was a Bollywood actor he would be a 'Larry Oliver' and as for McGoohan he would be a villian only. He does look like a villian don't he.

    But what really baffles me about Hollywood is that Jack Nicholson, who is ugly/arselicks his way to the top is consired the bees knees? If a female version of him exists I will live on the moon.

    Jack Nicholson is a fine actor and has reached the top of his profession by producing some excellent performances over the past 40 years.

    No, not all, but a lot. One of my fav is SUNSET BLVD (Yes, about Hollywood!), and I am a Film-Noir fan too, but a lot of them are spoiled by the production code sensorship.



    Regarding pre-code movies, I recommend:



    - FORBIDDEN HOLLYWOOD Vol. 1

    (on the cover the legs of Norma Shearer)



    and



    - FORBIDDEN HOLLYWOOD Vol. 2

    (on the cover a young Bette Davis)

    Do you know what region code the Forbidden Hollywood dvds are? The DVdBeaver site says R1,2,3,4 while amazon lists them as R1 only.

    The un-cut PAYROLL (1961) lasted 15 mins. longer, which scenes were cut?
