It wasn't about hating her torturers; I've watched both films and they're both extremely good. I just find it harrowing.

How do you think the ladies in question felt about it?

(the real ones even more so although the actresses playing the parts also went though some quite unpleasant stuff)

Of course it's harrowing. But does that really stop you watching either film again?

Sometimes it's good to be harrowed

I think also certain films become quite dated - so first time around ok - but then never again!

But the other side of the coin - don't you find certain films you can watch and watch and watch - no problem!

He was quite pally with the late Princess Margaret - he often went to Mustique - where she lived for a large part of her life.

Apparently he was rather well blessed downstairs and his party trick was to use said appendage as a cocktail stirrer!

    Certainly was a cocktail!!!

Mr Bindon was indeed a very hard man, but like most "hard men' he would on occasion use his physical prowess carelessly and inappropriately. There's a real difference between violence on the screen and the real thing. Mr Bindon knew about both.

what i got out of the book ,was that underneath the tough exterior there was someone insecure . he was touchy about his appearance [ some cruel people likened him to an oversize dwarf ] and his brother who was a bit loopy .any mention of either would send him into a rage

Passolini's Salo - 120 Days of Sodom, not British I know but I would struggle to watch this one again even though I think it is an excellent film, still never say never I see Criterion are releasing it again so I might watch it again, who knows..

Also not British, but wouldn't want to sit through it again Jaques Tati's p"Paytime". I saw a lovely print at Lincoln Center, but by the time it was over I felt that I'd been in it !

The Bridge on the River Kwai - stunning and a great film, but so harrowing that I was exhausted at the end.
